BOY SCOUT MONTHLY THEMES

Below is a listing of Boy Scout Monthly Themes. These themes are put out by BSA National in order to help provide guidance and unity for Troop leaders across the United Stated. They can be used by Troop Committees and Green Bar members to help plan an active Boy Scouting program for the upcoming year.

One question I am often asked is "Do we have to follow the themes?". The answer is "NO". These themes are only recommended. Troops may choose to follow these themes or come up with their own.

"To what advantage is there to following the themes?" National publications, Boy's Life, and local training's and Roundtables use these themes to help provide material for use by leaders for their units activities. This material is usually available to the leaders several months in advance. If National themes are not followed, this material may be not be available when needed. I recommend that the National themes be followed as closely as possible.

Remember that Roundtables are usually two months ahead of the National themes. This means that if "Shooting" is the theme for August, Roundtable will be covering Shooting in June. This allows time for the leaders to work the material they receive from Roundtables into the troop and patrol programs.
